Talk to your healthcare provider
Culinary mushrooms are food, not medicine. Even so, consult a qualified healthcare provider before making significant changes to your diet β especially if you:
- Are pregnant or breastfeeding
- Have a known mushroom allergy or food sensitivity
- Have a medical condition or take prescription medication
- Are introducing a new food to a young child
Cultivation safety
Indoor mushroom cultivation involves real health risks β primarily spore exposure (which can cause hypersensitivity pneumonitis, sometimes called "mushroom worker's lung") and the use of pressure cookers for substrate sterilization. Follow the safety guidance in each cultivation guide. Wear an N95 mask when handling spawn or opening fruiting chambers, and ventilate the room.
No foraging or wild identification
MushroomGuide.ca is a cultivation-only site. We do not publish information about identifying or foraging wild mushrooms. See our Foraging Policy for details.
No psilocybin content
We do not publish any content related to psilocybin or other controlled substances. See our Psilocybin Policy for details.
